Safari, Garden Route & Cape Town – Self Drive
South Africa
This trip has a little bit of everything on offer…. First you will head to your safari camp in the hunt for that elusive big 5. Spend 3 nights in this secluded valley at this classic 1920’s style expedition camp. Next it’s time to get back to the present with a scenic drive to Gqeberha (recently renamed from Port Elizabeth). Discover the history of this city grown from humble beginnings. Another scenic drive an you are now well and truly in ‘Garden Route territory’ This world famous route has jaw dropping views and stunning beaches. Plettenberg Bay, just a short drive away, is a must on most peoples lists with its abundance of restaurants, galleries and coffee shops to explore. But you’re not done with this coastline yet! Next your headed to the Protea Mossel Bay, this graceful landmark over looks Santos Bay and it’s harbour. Take a stroll on the beach soak up that sea air or maybe just sit somewhere suitably directed with a nice drink.
Now this wouldn’t be a true South African adventure without taking in Stellenbosch. Which is lucky as that’s where you are off next. We’ve got you a beautiful 5* spa hotel just outside the town from which to explore. From South Africa’s oldest town you have a world of activities to indulge in. Set firmly in the ‘wine route’ spend your days exploring various different vineyards enjoying their wine tasting. If wine isn’t your thing, then they’ve got excellent restaurants for foodies as well as a vibrant street culture to just sit and absorb.
Sadly it’s time for your last stop on this short, but jam packed itinerary. Jump in the car and head to Cape Town. Here you can take the cable car up table Mountain for epic views. We recommend you head there as soon as possible as the clouds are notorious for scuppering such plans. You’ve got shopping and restaurants galore down at the V&A Waterfront (and food is really cheap compared to over here too!). With it’s turbulent history there really is now a feeling of a wide and varied cosmopolitan city with every taste and experience catered for. However we would also recommend you head out of the city for the day as then you can take in many scenic routes which meander along this magnificent stretch of coastline. Not to mention the inland terrain leading to special places like Cape Point and Chapman’s Peak which boasts one of the most picturesque stretches of road in the world. This vast combination of culture history and scenery leads to an unforgettable experience in this fabulous country.
